Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI)

California Community Lender Inc. is an Emerging Community Development Financial Institution (“CDFI”), which means we are applying for CDFI certification through the US treasury.   This certification does two things:

  1. It demonstrates that our organization is “mission-driven” and committed to investing in communities that are underserved or in-need (i.e. small-business and communities impacted by natural disasters)
  2. It gives us a myriad of financing-tools which enable us to provide affordable and innovative financial products alongside development services.

With these tools, we will be able to attract private capital (from family offices, impact investors, credit unions, banks, and other financial institutions) to be used alongside public capital (from foundations, housing-bonds, disaster-recovery funds, etc.) in order to maximize the impact of our communities’ investments.

Since we are a non-profit lender, we will be able to offer favorable terms like lower interest rates, longer terms, and flexible credit criteria, and so on.  And in alignment with our ongoing mission statement, we will develop programs that support sustainable development and local enterprise.
